She lets the host ask her question: "I have a caller on the air who is too afraid to step out and ask for help. Do you have any words for this mom?"

Struck to the core by this woman's desperation, I assure her that she is NOT alone...that although it may seem like everyone has their act together-everyone but her-it is not true. EVERY mom, every parent needs help, support, tools, and inspiration to get through each day. I tell her how brave she is to just say that she needs help...I told her to email me, call me, because being there for her is what I'm all about.

If I had had the time, I would have also encouraged her to seek out someone she trusted..or find a group of local moms who meet for support regularly-to make a decision to share her mothering heart with at least one other person. It's a simple first step but one that many do not take. Even when in the company of those who are in the same life stage, there are walls and so many live in their own little private world where they struggle silently. Somewhere they picked up the belief that the love a parent has for their children conquers all and that outside help or support is not needed. That reaching out shows your weakness and that is to be avoided at all costs.

Mothering can be a lonely job. But, it doesn't have to be like that. Reach out. There is help...

TUNE IN to http://www.michaeldressershow.com at 3 p.m. (PST) TODAY for more on how to make the journey of parenting an ENJOYable one.

Valentine's Day

So, my kindergartner comes home and tells me that yet another boy has "popped the question." She's only 6 and she's already had more proposals than I've had in a lifetime. Good thing I said "Yes!" the first and last time! When I asked her what she said, she says, "Oh, mom, you know I'm too young to think about these things. That's what I told him...then, I said I'd probably marry him anyway, but let's talk about it later..."

Valentine's Day is around the corner. I walk by the family Valentine boxes and stop to write a note for each member of the family and slip it in their box to read on family Valentine's dinner night-how I love the way Hope's laugh fills a room, how I am impressed by the way Grace can solve any problem, how I delight in Faith's ability to make every person feel as special as she is, how my hubby makes me more of who I was intended to be...

You don't need a Hallmark card or even candy (although who doesn't need a bit of candy on Valentine's Day?) to let those you love feel special. Words are a powerful tool. Use them to uplift a spirit, to encourage someone to press on, or to sustain a friendship.

Last year, my husband wrote me a song and sent me a series of postcard love letters that fit together into a puzzle with a special message. Don't know what's brewing this year...fifteen years...can hardly believe it...

Simple or all out...Share how you will spend Valentine's Day this year!
